About the Artist
As a young child, Peter Muckenheim was introduced to soapstone
carving by his father, a commercial artist
known as Dimu. Peter
eventually joined his father in business, sculpting soapstone
for the wholesale market. Together, they supplied galleries and
shops throughout North America and Germany with unique carvings
highlighting authentic Canadian themes.
Peter now continues to build his wholesale business, regularly
attending trade shows with his wife Sheila. In recent years,
Peter and Sheila began participating in craft shows, selling
their soapstone carvings to the public for the first time.
Instrumental in his local arts scene, Peter also helps to
organize art shows and gallery tours.
Peter is pleased to offer a selection of his most popular
carvings here, available for shipment world-wide. Choose from
among inukshuks, Canadian wildlife sculptures, dog sled teams or
from the Studio Line. Each piece is an original, and each
highlights the artist’s passion for the culture and natural
spaces of Canada.
